So, Ariana and I are now in Austin, TX. After Mobile on Monday, we drove through New Orleans where we had chickory


coffee and beignets. We trekked onward and later that day, we had a wine tasting in Austin at 8.

We  have hit Austin at the worst possible time. The temperatures have been in the 20s, and yesterday there were rolling blackouts. It’s so cold in Austin, I met a woman yesterday in the gas station whose wet wipes had frozen in her car.

We drove around yesterday, and Ariana showed me some of her old haunts. We walked down South C

ongress so A-Train could find herself a new pair of Jackie O sunglasses. In the midst of all of this, we went ahunting for warm drinks.

We stopped at Spiderhouse which has the drink that has inspired today’s blog post.



se is a French liqueur that is spiced. It is from a similar tradition as Galliano. The liqueur is made with 130 herbal extracts. I have not the liqueur by itself, so I cannot give a lot of detailed information about it, but I wanted to give you a brief introduction. Unlike many other liqueurs, Chartreuse is 80 proof, so a little goes a long way.

Hot Chocolate and Chartreuse

Make Hot Chocolate. Most people have their own ways of making hot chocolate, so I will leave you all to your own devices. However, I thinking boiling milk works the best, instead of water from the tap


Pour 2 oz of Chartreuse in a glass.



The drink was really great, and I have never had anything like it. If you tend to avoid sweet cocktails or like a good balance of sweet and herbal, this is a great drink. The Chartreuse tends to overpower the


sweet of the chocolate and compliments it. There is a new balance to give it a very complicated flavor.

Now, the NC ABC stores do not carry this, so for all of your North Carolinians, I strongly recommend you try

this if you’re somewhere you can order it.
